CaringKids is an Australian charity that supports young carers — children and teenagers who care for a family member with a disability or chronic illness. Through the delivery of personalised Joy Boxes filled with toys, books, games and creative activities, CaringKids helps bring moments of happiness and relief to children who often miss out on a typical childhood.
Our Lions Club is proud to support CaringKids as part of our commitment to serving the community, supporting families, and making a meaningful difference in the lives of young people.
Giving the Gift of Sight: Narellan Lions Lead the Way
In a world where simple tasks like reading a book or walking safely across a street are often taken for granted, millions of people globally struggle with poor vision simply because they cannot afford a pair of glasses. At the Narellan Lions Club, we are proud to be part of the solution through the Lions Recycle for Sight program—a project passionately managed by our very own member, David Young.
Small Donation, Life-Changing Impact
The Lions Recycle for Sight program is part of a massive international effort that has already delivered over 19 million pairs of refurbished spectacles to people in need across Africa, East Asia, and the Pacific Rim.
For a child in a developing nation, a pair of recycled glasses can mean the difference between getting an education or falling behind. For an adult, it can be the key to securing a job and supporting their family.
How the Process Works
Under David Young’s leadership, the Narellan project ensures that every donation is handled with care:
* Collection: Used prescription glasses, reading glasses, and even sunglasses are collected from local drop-off points.
* Sorting & Cleaning: David and the team help coordinate the initial check to ensure frames are intact and lenses aren't heavily scratched.
* Refurbishment: The glasses are sent to the Lions processing centre, where they are professionally cleaned, graded by prescription, and packaged.
* Distribution: Humanitarian teams then deliver them to remote communities where eye care is otherwise inaccessible.
How You Can Help
Do you have old spectacles sitting in a drawer gathering dust? You can make a direct impact today. David Young and the Narellan Lions are always looking for:
* Prescription Glasses: Single vision and reading glasses are highly valued.
* Sunglasses: Both prescription and non-prescription are needed to help prevent eye disease in tropical climates.
* Spread the Word: Tell your friends and family! A small act of recycling can literally change how someone sees the world.
"Every pair of glasses donated has the potential to bring light into a life that was previously in the dark." — David Young, Project Manager.

The Narellan community continues to demonstrate its generosity by donating used stamps to The Lions Club of Narellan. These small contributions are carefully sorted, trimmed, and packed by volunteers before being forwarded to the Australian Chapter of the Lions International Stamp Club. From there, they’re sent to Sydney, where the Philatelic Association of New South Wales auctions them to raise funds through their trusted network of stamp collectors.
Every single stamp carries purpose—because all proceeds go directly to the Australian Lions Children’s Mobility Foundation, an inspiring initiative that provides walking frames and mobility aids to children who otherwise rely on wheelchairs. The Foundation’s motto says it all: “Walk with Pride.” Each device helps a child stand, walk, and gain independence—giving families hope and changing lives one step at a time.
In 2022 alone, with the help of Lions Clubs across the country, the Stamp Club proudly presented a cheque for $60,000 to the Foundation. This donation helped fund dozens of devices tailored to the needs of growing children, giving them new possibilities and self-confidence.
This project is a reminder that even the smallest act—saving a used stamp—can have a lasting impact. Lions believe in service through community effort, and this initiative embodies that spirit beautifully.
Please ask your family, friends, neighbours, and colleagues to save their used stamps. Drop them off at The Lions Club stall at Narellan Town Centre. With every envelope, you’re helping a child take a step closer to freedom and dignity.
Together, we stamp out limits—and walk forward with pride.
Lions Clubs and Australian Lions Foundation Partner to Support Campbelltown Hospital Neonatal Unit
In a powerful display of community collaboration, Camden, Narellan, Campbelltown City, Macarthur & Camden Lioness Lions Clubs have joined forces with the Australian Lions Foundation to support the vital work of the neonatal unit at Campbelltown Hospital.
This partnership has led to the successful purchase of life-saving equipment that will assist in the care of premature and critically ill newborns. The generous funding was made possible through a joint initiative involving local Lions Clubs and a matching grant from the Australian Lions Foundation, demonstrating the Lions’ continued commitment to improving health outcomes for local families.
“This project reflects the core values of Lions – serving the community where it’s needed most,” said Danny Richardson Narellan Lions Club President. “Supporting the neonatal unit ensures that our youngest and most vulnerable receive the best possible start in life.”
The equipment will enhance the hospital’s capacity to deliver advanced neonatal care, helping medical teams provide timely and efficient treatment to newborns in need.
Representatives from the Lions Clubs recently visited the hospital to present the equipment and meet with hospital staff.
The Lions extend their gratitude to the local community, whose continued support enables meaningful projects like this to become a reality.
